Harvard ex-president Summers Leaves from OpenAI Board
Ex-Treasury chief Larry Summers is leaving the directorate at the ChatGPT creator, just a week after a series of electronic messages between him and notorious criminal the disgraced billionaire became publicly available.
He commented in a release that he was "thankful for the opportunity to have served, optimistic about the potential of the company, and anticipate tracking their progress".
Summers, who formerly presided over the Ivy League institution, stated on recently that he would be scaling back from public roles due to his association with the convicted sex offender.
Digital Correspondence
The newly public messages demonstrated that the official corresponded with Jeffrey Epstein until the day before his 2019 apprehension for suspected trafficking of young people.
In additional comments, the artificial intelligence company stated it accepted his determination to resign.
"We value his numerous inputs and the viewpoint he provided to the Board," the company commented.
Political Context
This development arrives after the entire Congress of Congress decided on recently to pass a measure that would compel the US justice department to disclose its records on Epstein.
The measure will afterward proceed to the office of US President Donald Trump for endorsement. The President has indicated he expects to endorse the measure, after reversing his stance on the matter following pressure from his base.

A batch of Epstein-related emails released by the legislative panel recently mentioned multiple well-known personalities in the Epstein's previous network, without indicating any legal wrongdoing by those individuals.
The messages revealed that Summers and Jeffrey Epstein often met for meals, with the billionaire often trying to connect Summers to notable world leaders.

After the correspondence were made available with the general audience, the former official stated he accepted "total ownership for my ill-advised judgment to maintain corresponding with Mr Epstein".
He added that he desired "to restore trust and mend relationships with the individuals nearest to me".
Career Background
The economist held leadership roles under Democratic administrations; functioning as Treasury chief under President Clinton, and as director of the National Economic Council under the former leader.
He presided over the university from five years and is still a professor there. When declaring his withdrawal from public roles recently on Monday, he said he would maintain his teaching commitments.
Further Repercussions
Following his announcement on Monday, the policy organization, a left-leaning think tank in the capital where the professor was a prominent member, confirmed that the economist was ceased to be associated with the organization.
Summers entered the board of the AI company, which creates the AI chatbot, in the previous year - following a unsuccessful effort to replace its CEO OpenAI's head.
