The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four separate personas, each with their own fears and motivations. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips depict the main character exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their necks are. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players have deduced a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
